Learning Objectives: This training is a 6-hour training that prepares judges, attorneys, legal assistants, and mitigation specialists to understand the roles of treating providers versus expert consultants and expert witnesses. Guidelines and practice standards are discussed in order to provide legal professionals with the ability to critique reports, evaluations, deposition, and testimony. Attorneys will be prepared to engage in the examination and cross-examination of mental health professionals, both expert and treating providers. Judges will be able to weigh the evidence to determine whether the evidence will be considered.
